Statkraft Markets GmbH (Statkraft) is one of the leading suppliers of renewable energies in Europe. The company group produces hydropower, wind energy, district heating and builds natural gas power stations in Germany and Norway.

The year 2007 marked the beginning of a new era for the company. Statkraft put two gas power station on stream in Germany and signed a swap with E.ON AG and will thereby more than double its current electricity production capacities in Germany by 1 January 2009. Moreover, the company is among the major actors at Europe’s electricity exchanges and trades electricity in more than 20 European countries. Since Statkraft started up in Germany in 1999, the company has recorded continuous growth both in terms of turnover and trading volume.

Implementation

Given Statkraft’s dynamic expansion, the biggest challenge faced by Delta has been to ensure ET3000®’s application in, adaptation to and compliance with more and more markets and to guarantee the secure transfer of data in the formats required from and to those markets.

The implementation of the trading system that now comprehensively covers the European market included the following main tasks:

• Specification, development, parameter definition, testing and taking the software into productive operation
• Establishment of numerous interfaces to related systems
• Adaptation of ET3000®’s functionalities to meet new market requirements

All the objectives were achieved on the basis of close co-operation among the partners. Future projects will again use this successful approach involving joint specification, development and integration efforts.
